Seibukan Shorin-Ryu Karate was founded by Zenryo Shimabukuro in 1962. He was a student of Chotoku Kyan, a renowned Okinawan martial artist. After Zenryo Shimabukuro's passing in 1969, his son, Zenpo Shimabukuro, took over as the head of Seibukan Karate. Zenpo Shimabukuro continues to lead the organization and spread the art worldwide

History of Karate-do

Okinawa is the birthplace of Karate and Karate-do (The path/way). Historically Okinawa Karate was developed over many generations as a defensive art. Okinawa is a small island nation, with a small population and has been an international seaport for many hundreds of years. During this time most Asians and Europeans used Okinawa as a seaport to trade with each other. The Chinese, Japanese, and Americans all have, at one time or another, conquered (colonized) Okinawa. During World War II the Japanese had control of Okinawa. The battle for Okinawa is very famous battle. A hundred and sixty thousand Okinawa's died as result of the War.

Seibukan Shorin-Ryu Karate

Seibukan Shorin-Ryu Karate is a style of karate that focuses on both physical and mental discipline. The term "Seibukan" translates to "Holy Art School" reflecting the emphasis on the ethical and spiritual aspects of martial arts training.
